Meet the team
ERNEST WONG, 21
NSF
Ernest is kind of the rubbish guy with all sorts of funny ideas in the MOI Team. But hey! No idea is ever too small to spark a change in people's lives.
We are all different in our very own ways. We are all on our own journey. We all have our own stories. To me, when we talk about inclusiveness, it goes deeper into my values and beliefs. Do i respect people for who they are? It is a self exploration for me and working on MOI gives me a opportunity to do what i want the most, to be really making a difference in people’s lives
CHARMAINE FOO, 22
BSC Psychology undergraduate
With a fond affection for children, Charmaine has always been fascinated with the inner workings of a family. One day, she wishes to work with children who are/have been victims of child abuse.
I have always been fond of children but it was not until I started volunteering with Make-A-Wish Singapore at 16 years old when I realized that what I really wanted to do was to work with children. I started expanding my field of vision. That's when I started to tutor children with special needs or children from difficult families. Soon after, I started getting involved in voluntary work at places such as Lakeside Student Care Center. After a while at Lakeside Student Care, I became a mentor for youths at Carecorner Singapore, offering support in their lives and academically. It was at Lakeside student care and Carecorner Singapore that I got a look into the lives of children from difficult families and realized that many of them needed a safe space to grow. Some of them have been abused as children and really needed that safe space to open up and grow.
Now here at MOI, I want to offer and build that safe space for individuals from the different communities to grow and experience life to the fullest.
CHLOE NG, 22
BSC Maritime Studies undergraduate
Chloe's passion is life and people. This value for life around her is what truly compels her to make a difference in the lives of others.
My journey began unexpectedly when I started working along side the Deaf Community in the Hearing Impaired (HI!) Club in Polytechnic. Those heartfelt experiences and exposure to the special needs community has left a lasting impression and changed my perspective on community service. I am currently in NTU's Welfare Services Club (WSC), Ignite Change (IGC) working to spark volunteerism amongst youths.
I believe that inherent differences in society will always persist but it is this all-inclusive society and world that would be accepting of all our differences.
KHWONG ZHI YING, 21
B.Soc.Sci Psychology & Social Work undergraduate
Often seen playing or working with children, Zhi Ying never thought that would end up being her career....
My story began as a child when I found myself loving to surround myself with children. I love watching them discover new things and explore the world. Strangely, it was always easy for me to connect with children but never would I have thought that that could possibly be a career. Not until primary 6 when I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. I started looking at different possible jobs such as teacher, artist, interior designer etc. Eventually, I realised that Ngee Ann Polytechnic offers a diploma called Child Psychology & Early Education (CPEE). That became my goal. Regardless of advices to head to a junior college instead, I held on to my dream of wanting to enter CPEE to learn more about children and in particular, specialised in working with children with special needs. Now having the knowledge obtained from the course and various experiences working in the Early Intervention field, I am even more certain that these special group of individuals are people that are just like us and the community that we create should be one that embrace all differences.
